What does F.A.S.T. need from me to start my custom order?
We need your artwork (see below), the size range and quantity of product, plus a 50% deposit.
What happens after my order has been entered into the system?
You will be faxed copies of the vest proofs (if applicable). Check your design carefully for logo placement, spelling and design details. If you require any changes, phone Monica Mortimer, Director of Operations at 1-888-710-3278 or (604) 940-3222. If the design meets with your approval, sign the vest proof sheet and fax it back immediately to (604) 940-3221.
What is the lead time for custom and semi-custom orders?
Our lead times depend on volume of current orders in production. We generally request 3-4 weeks but if you require your items sooner, please let us know and we will try our best to accommodate you. In the event of unforeseen production interruptions (i.e. forest fires, earthquakes, etc.) requiring immediate attention, we may need to contact you to ask your permission to delay your order.

Can I reserve a spot in the production schedule?
Unfortunately, no. We work on a first-in first-out policy (barring emergency interruptions). Once you have paid the 50% deposit, and submitted all correct artwork and signed a proof of the product (if applicable), only then will your order be entered into the production schedule.
What is the difference between semi-custom and custom design?
A semi-custom design involves minor adjustments to the product parts i.e. pockets moved over, mylar pocket sizes changed, addition of radio pocket, change to silk-screening artwork, etc.

A custom-designed item involves a change to the original pattern or creation of a new pattern, either from an existing product or one you send to us. A design fee will be added to custom orders
What is the minimum quantity for an order?
For a semi-custom design, there is no minimum quantity of one style you can order.

For a custom designed item, a design fee applies. Contact us for an estimate.

What will the price of my custom product be?
The price of a custom product depends on a number of variables, such as the number of colors used, whether there is the same or different art on the front and back, and the quantity ordered.

You can call the custom department for more information on pricing at which time a preliminary quote can be given.

Are there shipping charges on top of the order?
Yes. F.A.S.T. uses an outside courier company and when the order is being processed, we can give you an estimate on shipping charges. You are also welcome to pick up your order at our production facility at 8850 River Road in Delta, British Columbia.
What are the payment terms?
50% deposit, balance on delivery for new clients. On account for existing clientele.
Can I see a sample of my item before I receive it?
We are not able to do samples in our production schedule but fabric swatches are available for mailing by request. This will, of course, delay production and F.A.S.T. guarantees 100% satisfaction. No compromise. See The Fine Print.

Where do I start when I am not a designer?
If you need help, call any of our Account Managers at 1-888-710-3278 or 604-940-3222 to guide you through the process.
What does the F.A.S.T. Art Department require from me for silk-screening?
The lead time for custom products is largely affected by the quality of the artwork that you submit. Your order is entered into our system when you place the order but cannot proceed to production until a signed vest proof (if applicable), logos, etc. are complete and usable. The list below of ideal requirements will help speed your order through as fast as possible:
- All graphics, text information, logos and hard edge illustrations created digitally by using the preferred vector drawing programs Adobe Illustrator or Freehand (PC).
- Convert all fonts into ‘outlines’ or ‘editable paths’.
- Specify how many colors are in the design or by sending swatch samples. A full list of available colours is placed onto each of the product information sheets you will find when you click on a product in our Catalogue.
- A color laser output of the final design is very helpful.
What is “camera-ready artwork”?
Camera-ready artwork is artwork where the type, artwork and graphic materials should be a very high black-and-white (B&W) contrast with NO colour and NO halftones (shading) ready to be photographed on a process camera. Lines must be sharp and clear and are generally output on a high-resolution laser printer or graphic file.

What if I do not have “camera-ready artwork”?
If camera-ready artwork is not supplied, or if artwork needs to be changed in any way, artwork preparation charges will apply at $50 per hour with a one-hour minimum.

There is no charge for art preparation if you supply camera-ready color separations on paper or a computer file.

Does F.A.S.T. keep logos on file?
Yes. We keep most logos from past jobs in our archives, which means we have a number of logos on file. You will still need to verify that your logo is current when we send the proof for you to sign off on.

F.A.S.T. charges a one-time silk-screening set-up fee for every new logo or custom artwork. Additional artwork design fees may be charged if artwork is not camera-ready.

What software does F.A.S.T. support?
F.A.S.T. works in a PC platform environment so sending files saved in any software, extension or format other than what is listed below may be unreadable by our systems.
- Adobe Photoshop 6.0 (PC only)
- CorelDraw 6.0 (Please save your Corel files to this version before sending it).
- Adobe Acrobat (PC only)
Can I have a full-colour logo on my custom-sewn products?
Yes. We can silkscreen multiple-colour logos for an additional fee per colour. F.A.S.T. is currently testing full-colour, heat transferred logos and will announce when our testing is complete and the results meet our exacting specifications.

What is unacceptable artwork?
- Internet/web graphics have deliberately been set at a low resolution (72dpi) in order to speed up time with internet surfing. A low resolution image will be void of detail and clarity, making it useless for print reproduction
- Hand-drawn or faxed images, or electronic web files
- Artwork created in drafting programs such as AutoCAD and Desktop publishing programs such as QuarkXPress or PageMaker are incompatible with our systems and we are unable to extract art from them
What is a PMT?
A PMT is the truest non-digital, printed hard copy representation of a company's registered logos. The logos are printed at a high quality or resolution (usually 2400 dpi), in black and white or color, onto a glossy 8.5” x 11” sheet of strong white paper stock. The PMT also contains different sizes and color specifications as well as an outline of the legal uses of the logos.

A PMT is the most common form of camera-ready artwork in a printed format most companies will use.

How do I get artwork to F.A.S.T.?
You can either e-mail the digital file or send it on a disk. If the file is too big (greater than 2MB) to e-mail, it is preferable that you save it on a Zip disk or CD, uncompressed, and mail it to the address below. Be sure to include the fonts used, as well as a laser output of the files.
